Vigna Bottin

Together the Bottin family has been growing grapes in McLaren Vale since 1970.

Anselmo and Ferdinando Bottin migrated to Australia with their family in 1954 from Treviso in northern Italy where they were grape growers. Quality farming is a long and proud tradition in the Bottin family. The mantel now rests with winemaker Paolo Bottin and his wife Maria.

A trip to Italy in 1998 inspired the family to refocus on traditional Italian varieties. The distinct similarities in climate and coastal influences between the vineyards of Italy and those in McLaren Vale reinforced the goal they'd always had - to produce Australian wines with traditional Italian vines. After a vintage in Pavia, Paul came straight home to plant both Sangiovese and Barbera in the family plot, his father Anselmo was finally happy!

Vigna Bottin are truly mini batch winemakers with a total production of 500 dozen; only 200 of this makes it outside the family's grasp. The grapes are grown and winemaking takes place on the family farm.

Secret Vines indeed.
