Halifax
Elizabeth Tasker and Peter Butcher own and operate H A L i F A X. They fervently believe that wine is made in the vineyard and spend countless hours amongst their vines.
It’s all about farming sustainably which we love here at Secret Vines. Peter strives for vineyard balance, which he defines as ‘within the vineyard itself, and all that surrounds and interacts with the vineyard throughout the yearly cycle.’
Located in the cooler and higher south eastern corner of McLaren Vale, Halifax Vineyard lies 9 kilometres from the waters of Gulf St Vincent and immediately beneath the Willunga Escarpment which rises 300 to 400 metres above sea level. The proximity to the ocean and the hills, together with the prevailing cool easterly gully winds in the afternoons and evenings moderate the normally warm to hot summers.
The gently sloping 4 hectare vineyard is planted on ancient river bed shale washed down from the hills immediately behind the vineyard.
Secret Vines indeed!

So what is a Secret worth sharing?
We seek out and recommend the best wines from around Australia and overseas. Quality creations from boutique, family-owned and hidden-away wineries. You won't normally find these wines on the retail shelves and if you can, they're always in limited supply. We call them ‘authentic wines from authentic wine families'.
