Why We Mix...

12th May, 2010

It occured to me yesterday after talking to a couple of our members yesterday that not everyone understands why we favour the mixed packs when we publish our offers..... this is my fault, as maybe I have not explained it well enough.

I've been around the wine industry most of my working life and I came to realise two things;

1. Everyone has their own tastes, but we all like good wine, and

2. There are too many agents or wholesalers who increase the cost of wine before it gets sold in a bottle shop (particularly high quality wine).

My soloution to problem 1, was to cull all the mediocre wines and just focus on what were standouts in their class at any given point of time.

And my soloution to problem 2, was to buy direct from wineries. The only issue here is that wineries would not sell me to me if I 'bastardised' their best products by advertising ridiculously low prices - so I came up with the concept of the recommended pack.

But our recommended pack is just that, it's a recommendation. You may just fancy one or two of the wines in that pack, but if you let us know that, we can swap the others over for something else in the warehouse that suits you.

You win, because you get high quality at a price even the 'big retailers' can't match.

I win, because I get to sell great wines.

The wineries win, because we cut out middle men and support the best family operators around.

So I encourage you to look though the recommended packs, then bend them to your taste. Just let me know in the delivery instructions what you're after taste wise and we'll make sure it's right down your alley.

It's the best value around on quality wines if we do it this way!
