Allister Ashmead
Portrait of Allister Ashmead
Big Al is a modest and funny guy that you can’t help but like. When it comes to wine he’s wise beyond his years. Al started young around the cellars of his family winery Elderton in the Barrossa. But since then he’s travelled and tasted his way around the world many times over, not that he’d tell you that, but a quick glance into his cellar will give it all away.
Besides being Co- Managing Director of Elderton, Al also chairs the Barossa Winemakers’ Committee and has just retired from the board of the Barossa Wine & Tourism committee. Not bad for a guy who’s about to turn 33.
I’m sure Al will be recommending a few Barossa Beauties, but that won’t be the end of it. I bet he can also throw you a few curve balls - although he does swear to stick to his mantra, that Friends don't let friends drink Pinot or Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc!
That's Al for you. We like it!
