Dean Hewitson
Portrait of Dean Hewitson
Bigger than life, Dean puts everything he’s got, into everything he does. His own winery Hewitson Wines produces some of the best reds South Australia has to offer. Meticulous and persistent, French winemakers try and emulate Deans work with the red grape Mourvedre it’s just that good. Our favourite in his line up is the ‘Old Garden’ Mourvedre which comes from a 155 year old vineyard. Close behind is his McLaren Vale Shiraz, ‘Mad Hatter’, which was apparently Dean’s nickname in the ‘chess club’ at uni.
Deano completed his wine making degree at Roseworthy College in 1986. After vintages in Western Australia and the Hunter Valley, he settled in at Petaluma with Brian Croser from 1987 to 1997. In the 90's Dean was also a flying winemaker in Beaujolais, Provence, Bordeaux and Oregon. He's also completed his Masters of Enology at one of the worlds leading wine schools, The University of California, Davis.
Shite watch out, this man is hot.
