2007 Willunga 100 Grenache
Willunga 100 is owned by husband and wife team David Gleave and Luciann Flynn. As a team, the couple have a simple focus - find good vines and let the grapes express their natural selves. They keep the makeup (oak) to a minimum and the wines are always great value.
Grenache has gone through a renaissance of late as winemakers refocus their efforts on bringing forth the subtleties of this once maligned grape variety. The comeback in popularity is good news for Barossa and McLaren Vale winemakers who between them have a fair proportion of the world's oldest Grenache vines to work with.
The 2007 Willunga 100 Grenache is a really good example of why this hearty old grape vine is back in vogue. Made with a tender touch, it is yielding, smooth and flowing with soft, spicy fruit.
