2007 JOSEPH Nebbiolo
Delicious. Brilliant. Sublime!
I can tell you right now; this will be one of my wines of 2010. The Joseph Nebbiolo is getting better every year, there's no question about that, but I also feel the drought of 2007 was absolutely perfect for this variety as it focused the grape berries to the max.
The Joseph Nebbiolo is dry-grown on a one hectare patch high above the township of Clarendon. There's only 8 barrels of this wine made and it's a ‘must have' amongst serious collectors. The vines are given the royal treatment - the already small crop is consecutively pruned until all the power in the vines is focused into just two or three bunches per vine. Grhhhh!
The glass oozes a heady mixture of roses, violets and dried cherry. Then comes the big ol' nebbiolo whack - the commanding tannins come riding in.
Delicious. Brilliant. Sublime!
