2007 five geese Shiraz
This baby has legs. Though still young, this wine will slowly evolve and develop superbly as time goes by. The drought year, with all those tiny grape berries deprived of a good drink, have undoubtedly produced some cellar specials - this is one of them.
Sue Trott is the owner of Five Geese and and one of Australia's few long-established female grape-growers. The fruit is sourced from her Blewitt Springs vineyard which was planted in 1965 and let me tell you, it's a magnificent vineyard to behold.
Although the 2007 has got some of the cuddly characters that McLaren Vale is known for, there is a real sternness in the spine that marks this one out from the norm. Full fruit flavour with layers of chocolate, vanilla and spice. A magnificent example of power and grace. Take a sip and let it unwind.
Decant this for a couple of hours prior to drinking.
